Day Twenty-One Report
November 21, 2006
36,047. Hooray! So I guess the yak-totem-thing is going to get me to 50k, huh?
Today is Official Angst Day. For some reason started going off on a bit about how Anabelle suddenly remembers that she ought to keep her distance, instead of getting too buddy-buddy with these people as they are only temporary friends. Riiiiiiiiiiight. Of course. (This is what I get for watching the end of Ouran during breaks from writing. Should never combine anime and writing.)
I don’t usually do angst, and I’m not sure I can really call this angst. This is about as angsty as my stories ever get. Well, with the exception of Lovepowerd (another story), which is pretty much an angst circus. More like “self-contemplation and reevaluation”. I’m big on that.
In other news, I found myself writing the margin note: “What’s the name of my country again?” Yes, this shows exactly how much attention I pay to worldbuilding. Brilliant, Ling, brilliant.
Day Seven Report, Part I
November 7, 2006
Currently standing at 11057. I thought I wasn’t going to make it at first, earlier, but things have been falling into place. A little over 600 words left to write today–I think I can make it. Today was kind of busy and I’m feeling a bit ill, but I’ve been consistently surprised at how many words I can fit into five minutes.
Today we delve into the most amusing world of culture shock, in which Anabelle discovers that not everyone lives the way she does… er, did. And that things aren’t always going to be just like her expectations. And gets stuck in a really horrid outfit. (That’s what you get for changing in the dark.)
In other news, my chapters are actually being a decent length for once! They’re turning out to be about 2500 words or so on average, which is pretty good for me. I’ve also added yet another scene I didn’t plan–I just seem to have a lot of ideas for this project. Although at the rate I’m going this novel is going to be sixty chapters long and about as long as Les Misérables.
Day Six Report
November 6, 2006
Clocking in at 10106. Not quite 11000, but still over 100 words over wordcount goal. Which is excuseable, because I had to get my computer wiped and restored today (in the space of an hour and a half, no less). And totally worth it, because I got an upgrade to Mac OS 10.4, which means that I can have the new JNW and Scrivener and Writeroom and Widgets and all those cool things I couldn’t have in 10.3.9. Awesome.
Today’s interesting things: I wrote a scene where Anabelle was going to cry but stopped herself. I then went back and changed it so that she cried. I also figured out what my magic looks like in manifestation–it’s more Tamora Pierce magic than Harry Potter, I think.
