  • Chamomile “Cammie” Passerini is a shy, awkward girl who recently moved to Oak Hills, MN to help take care of her aging grandmother. She hoped that the change of scenery would also give her a second chance to make more friends in school, but found herself faced with spending the rest of high school alone again—until the school guidance counselor mentioned social anxiety.

However, her innocent visit to the counselor seems to be causing her more anxiety, in the form of a sudden influx of vampires, werewolves, mages and lots of things out to get her. And suddenly just surviving the year is starting to look like a good outcome…

  • Blake Marshall appears to be your fairly standard high school student, if a little distant. He’s the star of the basketball team, and works at the local ¡Juice Fiesta! after school and on weekends.

Oh, yeah, and he’s also a vampire. Following the traumatic incident that killed his family and made him that way, he’s seeing Dr. Larson for therapy for a combination of depression and PTSD. However, his troubles aren’t over just yet…

  • Dr. George Larson is the Oak Hills School’s guidance counselor, and always ready to lend a helping hand to a student in need. He also happens to be one of the foremost experts in handling cases from the Eldritch community, although one might wonder why, since he seems so normal…
  • Eglantine Lewis is Dr. Larson’s secretary, part-time, and also a vampire. She was one of the first cases accepted into general society, particularly in light of the honors she received for her service as a field nurse during WWII. She currently works part-time as a secretary and freelance writer, and goes to gothic lolita meet-ups on the weekends.
  • Nina Wiseman is Cammie’s first friend at the Oak Hills School. A permanent ray of sunshine, Nina is bubbly, energetic, and confident in everything she does in contrast to the more sedate Cammie. While they have their misunderstandings every so often due to their innate differences and the fact that she can’t read Cammie’s mind, Nina is always big on the forgive and forget as long as there is fun to be had.
  • Brian Rhodes is the Oak Hills School’s sports star, for what value it has there. He’s a fairly good-natured, easygoing guy, and is pretty good about rolling with all the strange things that go on around him. Nina calls him their “getaway driver” because he is the only one who has a car, and is nice enough to let people bum rides off of him.
  • Caleb Zhang is a casual geek who likes computers and may or may not harbor a secret love of Pokémon. His parents want him to be a doctor, but he would prefer to leave off the decision for a little while, because he’s not so sure he wants to be just like them. One problem: there’s one way he’s very much like them that he can’t get rid of and can’t avoid—because it rears its furry head every full moon.

He is the only person aside from Dr. Larson to already know about Blake’s true nature. Although it caused some tension between them at first, they actually became good friends after settling their differences, finding they had quite a bit in common.

  • Tom Johnson is a geek of the megalomaniacal, internet meme-spouting, loud-and-proud variety. He is rarely seen without his computer. Caleb is his best friend.
  • Genevieve “Gen” Tolbert is a hip young woman who manages Tolbert & Smith Paranormal Investigations (formerly Tolbert Paranormal Investigations). The type to like having a foot in both worlds, she has both a Master’s of Magical Sciences and a Bachelor’s of Computer Science. She occasionally takes cases from the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs as a detective and sort-of social worker.
  • Marcus Smith is Genevieve Tolbert’s investigative partner. Once her employee, he was promoted to a full partner a few years back, and while he still acts mainly as her assistant, he gets to quip back at her now. He’s been a vampire going on thirty years, but is one of the few vampires with a “carte blanche” from the government for travel and behavior, given his very even-keeled nature.
  • Elise: ???

About

This is the blog of a WriMo called Ling who is also known as sparklythingy from time to time, especially on the NaNoWriMo forums. Somehow she decided that it sounded like a good idea to try to write a novel in a month. These are her adventures in word-counting and fast typing.
