This Year’s Possible NaNos:

  • Crown: A farmgirl manages to stumble onto the lost crown that’s the legitimizing item of the throne that’s been fought over for near thirty years. Now chosen as the next queen, she finds that she’s now A) occasionally possessed by an evil and sentient crown, B) the assassination target of ever faction nearby, and C) facing an invasion from two sides. It’s good to be queen?
  • The Good Princess: A princess, blessed at birth by fairies to be graceful, beautiful, and generally empty-headed, is in for a rude awakening when the Fairy of Awkward Teenage Years shows up at her engagement celebration and blesses her with “Being how she truly is.” Finding herself a lot more clear-headed and interested in the world, will she manage to stay her new self?
  • Operation Cinderella: A riff on the Cinderella tale where Ella is a revolutionary trying to overthrow the king and attends the ball in order to kidnap the prince–except for she didn’t expect him to actually be a half-decent guy.
  • A Wizard’s Work: The journeys of Alex Winston, lady wizard, in a 1930s-esque setting.
  • Some other thing.

Last Year:
Anabelle Emitan was on the fast track to fame, fortune, and overwhelming success. Born into a wealthy, prosperous and well-established family, she had everything a girl could want. She was good at magic, popular with the boys, and had her acceptance to the prestigious Coronet Academy of Magic in hand. Sure, she was the ultimate bitch queen of the universe–but all’s forgiven if you’re pretty, popular and prosperous, right? And she was. That was, until everything went down the drain following a prank gone awry.

Now she’s starting over at a new school (ancient, underfunded and dingy) with new friends (untalented, insecure, and mostly useless, when they’re not mad at her) and a new purpose in life: to get back at her ex-best friend, Filiana, who told on her about the prank by winning the Pan-Talamar Academic Magic Tourney and winning the grand prize of more money than anyone else at her school has ever seen.

Will she even manage to get her school into the tourney? Can she bring her ragtag group of teammates together? Will she learn to be a halfways decent person? Will Coraline refrain from killing her?

Well, we’ll see.
